You can abseil craggy lava formations, navigate mountainous ridges, or take on the well-known Chiming Bells, Girdlestone or Cathedral Rock climbs.

There are several local companies who can take you on a guided adventure.

 There is an indoor climbing wall located 15km from Chateau Tongariro in National Park with over 300m2 of wall, 35 top ropes, 55 different climbs, beginners to advanced, grades 10 to 27, gear hire, free instruction, open daily 9am to 8pm, cost $12.00 per person
