Stay with us and Whakapapa Ski Field - the largest ski field in New Zealand - is mere minutes away, so you can wake up and be first on the fresh packed snow. Whakapapa caters for all levels from novice to professional and boasts all the services and amenities that you would expect of any international ski area.
After the last run, you're soon relaxing in front of a crackling fire with a warm mulled wine, enjoying drinks at one of our bars, catching a great movie in the Chateau Cinema or soaking in the hot plunge pool.
Whakapapa Ski Area is professionally patrolled and has 7 chairlifts, 3 T-Bars, 3 Platters and 2 Learners Tows. There is also Ski and Snowboard hire, a Ski Shop and an excellent Ski School - catering to all levels of ability.
Separate to the main ski area is Happy Valley - an excellent beginner's area.
Whakapapa Ski Field boasts 30 groomed trails and an impressive variety of off-piste areas
Snowboarders and free-skiers love the Terrain Park and other special features designed for these popular sports. There is also tobogganing and tubing areas for the kids and big kids!
Turoa Ski Field
Turoa Ski Area, just a 66 km drive from Chateau Tongariro
Turoa Ski Area is 500 hectares (1200 acres) of patrolled terrain accessed by 9 lifts. There is also 3 main off-piste areas to delight more advanced skiers and boarders, an expertly-designed terrain park for snowboarders and free-skiers and a dedicated learner's area called Alpine Meadow. Turoa also boasts one run that is 4 kilometres long and the South Pacific's longest vertical - 722 metres!
